Steph Curry Calls Out Jimmy Butler Over Bizarre Warriors Post

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry had one simple question after teammate Jimmy Butler shared an unusual Instagram post on August 7.

“What is wrong with you 😂,” Curry wrote in the comments.

Butler’s post, tagged in Amsterdam, featured a carousel of exaggerated basketball images and carried the caption, “batman posted in amsterdam.” Curry apparently needed no further explanation before weighing in.

The exchange was mostly comedy, but it also offered another glimpse into the relationship between Golden State’s two veteran stars at a point when Butler’s health remains one of the biggest variables hanging over the Warriors’ upcoming season.

Stephen Curry Couldn’t Let Jimmy Butler’s Post Slide

Curry was hardly the only person confused by Butler’s creation.

The post quickly drew reactions questioning what, exactly, Butler had put together. Curry’s response stood out for obvious reasons. Rather than play along with the bit, the four-time NBA champion went straight to the point.

“What is wrong with you 😂,” he wrote.

Butler has never been shy about showing his personality away from the court, and his latest post appears to fit that mold. This time, Curry became part of the joke.

Their public back-and-forth also comes during an unusual offseason for the Warriors. Curry is healthy again after a knee issue cost him 27 consecutive games last season, while Butler is working back from a much more significant injury. Curry returned in April after nearly two months out.

Butler tore the ACL in his right knee in January, ending his 2025-26 season. He had been averaging 20.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists before the injury.

Jimmy Butler’s Recovery Looms Over Warriors’ Season

The Amsterdam post shouldn’t be mistaken for an indication that Butler is nearing a return to NBA action.

In late June, Butler said he was still “in the thick of it” with his rehabilitation and indicated he was at least another month and a half away from running on the court.

There has been encouraging news since then. ESPN’s Anthony Slater reported in July that people around Butler felt he had “turned the corner” in recent weeks, although he still was not running unrestricted or doing full sprints at that point.

That distinction matters for Golden State. The fun Curry-Butler exchange comes only days after Curry acknowledged just how much Butler’s injury changed the Warriors’ calculations.

“When Jimmy got hurt and Moses got hurt, the whole calculus of everything changes,” Curry told The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson II, referring to Butler and Moses Moody while discussing Golden State’s situation this week. Curry added that the same uncertainty carries into the coming season.

So while Curry could have some fun at Butler’s expense on Instagram, Golden State is still waiting for the much more important Butler development: his return to the floor.

The Warriors know what the Curry-Butler pairing can look like when both are available. How much of the upcoming season they actually get to play together will matter far more than whatever Butler decides to post from Amsterdam next.
