The New York Yankees made some notable additions at the trade deadline, acquiring Luis Garcia Jr. and Heliot Ramos.
However, they didn’t address two of their biggest needs: adding another catcher and bolstering the bullpen.
On Friday, the Yankees somewhat addressed their catching need by agreeing to a minor league deal with 10-year MLB veteran and 2023 World Series champion Mitch Garver, who won the title with the Texas Rangers.
Aaron Boone Reacts to Signing
Boone spoke to the media before the Yankees opened their weekend series against the Atlanta Braves and reacted to the addition of Garver, who the Seattle Mariners recently released after several productive seasons throughout his career.
“Obviously a ton of experience, a guy that’s had a lot of success in the league, so really just trying to add to our depth and protection and kind of get him into our system and see where we can help him and see what he has and you never know.”

Garver’s MLB Career
Garver has struggled at the plate this season, batting just .175 with four home runs and 15 RBIs across 126 at-bats.
However, he enjoyed a strong 2023 season with the Texas Rangers, hitting 19 home runs and driving in 50 runs across 87 starts. His best season came with the Minnesota Twins in 2019, when he hit 31 home runs and recorded 67 RBIs in just 93 games.
Garver made his MLB debut with Minnesota in 2017 and spent five seasons with the Twins before joining the Rangers for two seasons. He then spent the last three seasons with the Seattle Mariners.
