Philadelphia Phillies Announce Andrew Painter, Derek Hill Update Before Nationals Game

During the Philadelphia Phillies’ 10-4 loss to the Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday night, right-hander Andrew Painter and center fielder Derek Hill both exited the game with injuries.

Painter exited the game with hamstring tightness after allowing just one run over four innings.

Hill left in the top of the 11th inning after crashing into the center-field wall while trying to catch a deep fly ball. He remained on the ground for several minutes before walking off the field surrounded by medical staff.

The Phillies are slated to play the Nationals for the series finale at 6:05 p.m. EDT on Thursday. Before the finale, the Phillies announced updates on Painter and Hill.

The Athletic’s Matt Gelb wrote on X: “The Phillies received good reports on Andrew Painter and Derek Hill. Don Mattingly said he expects Painter to make his next start and for Hill to be potentially available on bench tonight.”

This is great news for the Phillies. When Painter exited, most fans probably assumed he’d miss an extended period of time. As for Hill, the outfielder appeared to be much more hurt than he was when he left last night’s game. The fact that both avoided the injured list feels like a miracle.
