The San Antonio Spurs have signed former Indiana Pacers shooting guard Taelon Peter to a new contract ahead of training camp.
Peter played in 38 games with the Pacers last year, but he was waived by Indiana on July 20 as the team needed to drop from four two-way contracts to the maximum of three.
Now, the Spurs have pounced and signed a young SG with some untapped potential.

HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto first reported the deal with Peter and the Spurs, though details are sparse at the moment. The contract is likely non-guaranteed with an invite to training camp as Peter attempts to win a bench spot on the stacked Spurs, or perhaps land a two-way contract.
“The San Antonio Spurs and Taelon Peter have agreed to a deal, league sources told @hoopshype . Peter will go to training camp with the Spurs after averaging 4.5 points in 38 games played for the Indiana Pacers last season. Peter was the 54th overall pick of the 2025 NBA Draft,” Scotto wrote on his X.

Peter was originally drafted in the second round with the 45th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. He then signed a two-way contract with Indiana.
In his first and only season with the Pacers, Peter played in 38 games, averaging 4.5 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game on .380/.328/.625 shooting splits. Those aren’t great numbers, especially his shooting splits, but at just 24 years of age, Peter still has the chance to reach his potential, and perhaps he can do so in San Antonio, though it will be an uphill battle to win a job with the Spurs.
San Antonio has a stacked roster with tons of guards already on it, so Peter is going to be in tough to make the team out of training camp. Barring an incredible camp that sees him earning a guaranteed contract, it’s more likely that San Antonio will ink him to a two-way deal, or perhaps he will just attend their training camp and gain more experience.
Either way, it’s a somewhat intriguing signing by the Spurs this late in the offseason.
