The Athletics have parted ways with former general manager David Forst after a season in which the team has struggled to win games.
With a 45-70 record this season, the Athletics have been one of the biggest disappointments in all of MLB. Armed with a load of young, talented, and controllable players, things have seemingly fallen apart for the Athletics, who were supposed to contend for the playoffs this season. Instead, the team is battling the Los Angeles Angels for last place in the American League West, and it cost Forst his job.
Athletics Part Ways With David Forst
The Athletics confirmed in a statement that they have parted ways with Forst, with assistant general manager Dan Feinstein taking over on an interim basis for the rest of 2026.
“David has been an integral part of the A’s and our success for nearly three decades. His leadership, dedication, and commitment to this team have helped shape our baseball operations department and position us for the future. We are grateful for everything David has done for our organization,” said A’s owner and managing partner John Fisher in a statement posted on the team’s website.

Forst also spoke after leaving the team that he has spent the last 27 years with, offering a classy statement after exiting the organization.
“It was truly an honor to spend the last 27 years with the A’s, especially the last 11 as the GM. This organization is full of incredibly talented, devoted, and good people, and I am lucky to have worked alongside them for so long,” Forst said.
The 50-year-old Forst was first hired by the A’s in 2000, when he worked as a scout for the team. He then became the team’s assistant general manager to Billy Beane in 2004 and was then promoted to general manager in 2015 after Beane left his post.
The Athletics won the AL West just once during Forst’s 10 seasons as the team’s GM, in 2020, and only made the playoffs three times.
With the team slated to move to Las Vegas for 2028, they will have a new front office in place.
