Tommy Lloyd is the head coach of the Arizona Wildcats men’s basketball team, and his family—especially his wife Chanelle Lloyd and their children—has played a key role in his journey. Lloyd has built a successful coaching career, including a trip to the 2026 Final Four, but he has consistently credited his family for supporting him through every stage. 1. Tommy Lloyd’s Wife Chanelle Lloyd, Has Been With Him Since College
Tommy’s wife, Chanelle Lloyd, met him in 1995 when both were students at the University of Southern Colorado. Their relationship started simply, with a first date at a local diner, and quickly grew stronger.
After graduating, the couple traveled to Australia together, where they took on a unique challenge managing a remote hotel.
“We ran the hotel and literally it was awesome,” Tommy said. “I mean, I had no idea how to run a hotel and hospitality, but I’m checking people in, I’m making poached eggs, taking breakfast (orders), I’m the bartender at night. It was an awesome adventure.”
They married in 1997 as Lloyd began his coaching career.
2. Tommy & Chanelle Have Three Children Together
Tommy and Chanelle share three children: Liam, Sofia, and Maria.
Liam followed in his father’s footsteps, playing college basketball at Arizona in his final season before joining the Wildcats as a graduate assistant. Lloyd has spoken openly about their relationship.
“Liam’s a great kid. And obviously, we have a great relationship,” Tommy told Sports Illustrated about coaching his son. “But we approached this year like we never thought it would happen, because we never wanted it to happen.”
He added, “Liam’s very independent. He was on his own journey. He doesn’t need his dad.”
3. Tommy Lloyd Is Also a Grandfather
Tommy is also a grandfather. Liam and his wife, Halle, welcomed a son, Luka, adding a new dynamic to the family.
Lloyd described the experience as meaningful.
“Things happened in his life, obviously. You see me holding Luka, which is
awesome,” Tommy said to SI. “It’s like literally been the best thing that’s happened to our family. Even better than coming to Arizona.”
The addition of Luka has brought the family even closer together in Tucson.
4. Tommy Lloyd’s Daughters, Sofia and Maria, Stay Close to the Game
Sofia and Maria Lloyd have grown up around basketball and their father’s career.
“He’s always brought us around and wanted us around his job and included us. He’s brought us to every practice growing up… every game,” Sofia said in an interview when Tommy was named Father of the Year,
Maria added, “He’s a very genuine, humble, kind loving person. And I think he’s instilled that into all three kids.”
Both daughters have remained closely connected to their father’s work and the family’s shared experiences.
5. Tommy Lloyd Credits His Wife Chanelle Lloyd for His Success
Tommy has consistently credited Chanelle for helping him balance coaching and family life.
“You have to have a great wife. You can’t do what I do unless you have a great partner. She carries a heavy load,” Tommy said.
Chanelle also reflected on their move to Arizona after more than two decades in Spokane.
“Coming to Tucson, it was a big move for us because we were in Spokane for 22 years… but we were excited for the change and for him… and we absolutely love Tucson,” Chanelle said.
Lloyd has remained focused on his team while appreciating the support system around him.
“I’ve got my full focus on this team. Nothing is distracting me. That’s how I’ve decided to approach it,” Tommy said.
