The Chicago White Sox, despite dropping their series opener to the Cleveland Guardians on Friday evening, still hold the first-place spot in the AL Central.
It’s a 2.0-game lead over the Minnesota Twins in the Central Division, but the White Sox have undoubtedly been one of the biggest surprises in Major League Baseball this season.
During the Guardians series, the White Sox have made a plethora of roster moves.
One under-the-radar move the White Sox organization made was releasing 5-year player Javy Guerra.

According to the White Sox transactions tracker, Javy Guerra has been released from AAA Charlotte.Â
“Charlotte Knights released RHP Javy Guerra.”
Chicago signed Guerra in mid-June following his release from the Atlanta Braves organization. The RHP has not appeared in MLB since 2023.
In 2026, with AAA Charlotte, Guerra boasted an ERA of 3.09 over 11.2 IP, but again, with roster crunches happening all across the league, Guerra is now officially released and can sign with any MLB organization.

Taking a quick look at Javy Guerra’s MLB career, he has logged a total of 63 big-league innings across five seasons.
Guerra has pitched for the San Diego Padres, Tampa Bay Rays, and Milwaukee Brewers.
In those 63 innings, he has an ERA of 6.43 with 45 strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.778.
His underlying stats (low strikeout rate, high walk %) are likely the reason he has not received another MLB opportunity since 2023.
In that 2023 season, Guerra posted an ERA of 6.05 over 16+ innings.
