The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will need to cross one name off the list of offensive coordinator candidates.
That’s because Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken will follow former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh to the New York Giants, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini. Monken recently interviewed with the Buccaneers for the offensive coordinator job, but Russini reported that Monken following Harbaugh “has always been the plan” since the longtime head coach’s unexpected firing in Baltimore this month.
Tampa Bay fired former offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard last week, and the Buccaneers still have plenty of options among the candidates interviewed besides Monken. The Buccaneers have interviewed former Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan and Detroit Lions passing game coordinator David Shaw, among the six confirmed candidates. Other interviewees include Arizona Cardinals quarterbacks coach Israel Woolfork, Giants interim head coach Mike Kafka, and Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson.
In addition, the Buccaneers have an upcoming interview on Friday with former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, according to FOX Sports’ Greg Auman. Known as an offensive innovator, McDaniel “would consider a great OC opportunity better than a not-great head coaching vacancy,” Auman noted.
How Timing Could Work For Buccaneers
McDaniel could be the best offensive coordinator candidate for the Buccaneers, but he is highly sought after as a coaching candidate in general, despite the Dolphins firing him.
Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported that McDaniel has interviewed with the Titans, Ravens, Falcons, and Cleveland Browns. Stroud added that McDaniel is also interviewing for the Lions offensive coordinator position.
How Buccaneers OC Candidates Fared in Their Previous Posts
McDaniel had a 35-33 record and two playoff appearances — both losses — with the Dolphins. Miami’s offense dipped in his final season with 20.4 points per game amid injury to wide receiver Tyreek Hill and declining play from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Kafka became the Giants interim head coach in November, and the Giants finished strong with wins over the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders. The Giants scored 34 points in both wins as quarterback Jaxson Dart continued to look promising.
Callahan spent the past two seasons with the Titans, which remained mired in losing during that span. He worked with rookie quarterback Cam Ward, the No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft, but had little talent around him.
Woolfork had success with Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett after Kyler Murray’s struggles led to a benching. Brissett threw for 3,366 yards and 23 touchdowns in an offense that featured wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
Shaw’s success with the Lions showed on the field in 2025 as the team ranked fifth in scoring with 28.3 points per game. The passing attack averaged 253.1 yards per game.
Robinson’s Falcons offense finished 14th in total offensive yards with 333 per game, but the 2024 season looked better as the team finished in the top 10 for multiple offensive categories.
