Packers Facing Imminent Problem That Could Derail Future

The Green Bay Packers were a serious Super Bowl contender throughout much of the 2025 NFL season. Unfortunately, injuries took a hold over the team in the second half of the year and they were eliminated in the Wild Card by the arch-rival Chicago Bears.

After losing in such heartbreaking fashion, the team has had a sour taste in its mouth all offseason long. That sour taste won’t leave until the 2026 campaign gets underway.

On the outside looking in, the Packers look like a team who could compete for a championship this season. However, there are still question marks that must be answerd.

Green Bay needs help at the cornerback position. There are also concerns about the pass rush, especially with Micah Parsons working his way back from a torn ACL.

That being said, there is another threat that the Packers are facing. It’s a threat that could derail their ability to be a Super Bowl contender past the upcoming season.

Green Bay Packers Facing Extremely Concerning Issue

As of right now, Green Bay only has two wide receivers under contract following the 2026 NFL season. Those two wide receivers are Matthew Golden and Savion Williams.

For a position group that has long been considered a strength due to the financials and youth, the Packers’ offense could be looking much different at this time next offseason.

Names like Christian Watson, Dontayvion Wicks, and Jayden Reed will need to get new contracts in order to return. Brian Gutekunst will need to decide which of those wide receivers needs to be paid and who Green Bay can allow to walk away.

It’s an issue that should be addressed this offseason rather than gambling on a troubling wide receiver situation heading into the 2027 season.

How Could the Packers Address Their Wide Receiver Problem?

First and foremost, the Packers could work out a couple of extensions in the near future. Watson and Reed seem like the most likely options for those new deals.

Watson has been expected to receive another contract from Green Bay. When that contract could come remains to be seen.

Another route that Gutekunst could consider would be to draft a wideout in second or third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. That would hinder the Packers from being able to address other needs, but it’s an option that should not be ignored.

Green Bay could also consider trading for a wide receiver. A name like A.J. Brown or even Keon Coleman could make some level of sense for the Packers.

Expect to see the front office address the situation in the fairly near future. It’s a definite concern for Green Bay, but thankfully there are plenty of potential fixes.
