Broncos Shake Up Roster in Ominous Sign for 2-Time Pro Bowler

The Denver Broncos are making moves on a busy Friday, with their latest roster decision being to add Kyrese Rowan.

Broncos fans should be familiar with Rowan by now.

An undrafted free agent out of Utah State, Rowan has been back and forth on the Broncos’ roster over the past year, and has even followed a similar quick turnaround in a recent stint with the club. At any rate, Rowan is back amid an injury to Marvin Mims Jr.

“#Broncos are signing WR Kyrese Rowan, per source. Had a tryout yesterday. A familiar face, as Rowan was with Denver through camp in ‘25 and landed there again during regular season,” The Denver Post’s Luca Evans reported on X on August 7.’

“Contingent on passed physical.”

Rowan was part of a contingent of players that worked out for the Broncos on Friday, but initially lost out on a spot to Kyre Duplessis, a fellow former college free agent.

“Per source: Broncos worked out Rowan, liked him but didn’t plan on signing right away,” Evans reported in a follow-up post. “He flew back to Utah, they called back after Marvin Mims pulled up with injury at practice today and flew Rowan right back to Denver.”

Rowan has yet to see the field in a regular-season game.

However, he tallied four receptions and 33 yards on five targets in three preseason games with the Broncos as a rookie.

That the Broncos felt the need to add another receiver, specifically after passing on them initially and then losing Mims, could be an ominous sign for the All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowl return specialist.

Mims also exited practice early on Thursday after a teammate fell on him during a rep.

Broncos Already Without Jaylen Waddle

The potential loss of Mims stings even more for the Broncos in the wake of losing Jaylen Waddle for what head coach Sean Payton expects will be no more than “four to five days,” with the Super Bowl champion called a “strain.”

The Broncos have already been managing two-time Pro Bowler Courtland Sutton’s participation in camp in an effort to keep him fresh.

They have been without center Luke Wattenberg for multiple sessions, too.

That the Broncos did not make a more significant investment into a potential replacement could suggest that whatever Mims and Waddle are dealing with will not sideline them for too long. It is still a quickly deteriorating situation for the Broncos.

The Broncos will open their preseason slate against the Atlanta Falcons in one week.

Mims and Waddle may have been unlikely to play much, if at all, in that contest regardless of their health status. It is almost a certainty that they would at least be limited now.
