Alabama QB ‘Like You’re Playing a Video Game’ Says Ryan Coleman-Williams

The buzz surrounding Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Keelon Russell continues to grow following an impressive showing during the program’s 2026 A-Day scrimmage.

Inside Bryant-Denny Stadium, Russell delivered one of the most electrifying performances of the afternoon, showcasing the dynamic playmaking ability that has teammates and coaches excited about his future.

Russell completed 21 of 33 passes for 240 yards, throwing four touchdowns and one interception while also flashing his mobility, even while limited in a non-contact jersey.

Alabama Teammates Praise Keelon Russell

For wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams, playing alongside Russell presents a unique challenge and opportunity.

Russell’s ability to extend plays forces receivers to stay engaged longer, but it’s something Coleman-Williams embraces.

“That’s exactly what you want,” Coleman-Williams said. “It just feels like you’re playing a video game when 12’s in… you never know what you’re going to get.”

The creativity was on full display during A-Day, as Russell consistently kept plays alive and found open targets downfield.

Russell’s Leadership Growth a Key Factor

While Russell’s athletic ability has never been in question, his development as a leader is what’s starting to separate him.

According to Coleman-Williams, the biggest strides have come off the stat sheet.

“Definitely in his leadership, his confidence,” he said. “He had confidence coming in, but sitting a year behind a very good quarterback… he’s taking all those intangibles and putting them in his game.”

Russell appeared in just two games as a true freshman in 2025, but that developmental year is now paying dividends as he looks more comfortable commanding the offense.

Keelon Russell Has Command of Alabama Offense

Coleman-Williams did not stop his praise of Russell there either. Better known as “Hollywood”, Coleman-Williams gave a strong opinion on his evaluation of Russell’s command of the Alabama offense from year 1 to year 2.

“Light-years, honestly,” he said. “Now he’s commanding everything — getting guys lined up and reading the defense. That’s a big jump.”

With Russell now in full command of the offense, it is going to be extremely difficult to keep him off the field.

Is Keelon Russell the Future of Alabama Football?

After his jaw-dropping performance during A-Day, fans are wondering, is Keelon Russell QB1 entering the 2026 season?

While we may not have received that answer from Coach DeBoer yet, Russell has certainly taken the next step in being the future of the Alabama football program.
