49ers All-Pro Reacts to Trent Williams’ Extension

The San Francisco 49ers and future Hall of Fame left tackle Trent Williams have finally come to terms on a new extension. After another offseason of back-and-forth and continuous unknowns, the 12-time Pro-Bowler is back in the Bay Area on a two-year extension worth $50 million. He is the first non-quarterback in NFL history to earn over $400 million in contract value and over $225 million in guaranteed money.

Now that he is back in the fold, his Niners teammates are more than excited. Specifically, 10-time Pro Bowl fullback Kyle Juszczyk shared his thoughts via social media after hearing the news. He made sure to share his excitement while also poking fun at Williams’ age.

Trent Williams Will Likely Finish His Career With the San Francisco 49ers

Here is what Juszczyk posted on his Instagram story on Monday after hearing the news of the Niners inking Williams to a new extension:

“Congrats to the eldest statesman on the team!”

Now in his late 30s, Williams’ storied career is likely going to end in San Francisco. If he ends up playing out this current deal, he will be on the verge of turning 40. Having accomplished everything that there is to accomplish, outside of winning a Super Bowl, Williams has no reason to go anywhere else. In fact, seeing as the 49ers appear to be Super Bowl contenders for the next few seasons, he’ll have a great chance to finally bring home some championship metal.

The 49ers Have Had a Major Offseason

Mike Evans

Signing Williams was one of several moves that the franchise has made this offseason. San Francisco made major moves during the free agency period in the wide receiver room by signing future Hall of Fame wide receiver Mike Evans, as well as former 1,000-yard pass-catcher Christian Kirk.

The team also re-signed former linebacker Dre Greenlaw and traded for veteran defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa.

As the NFL Draft is just days away from taking place, San Francisco has just six total draft picks, which is why every move is very impactful. On an experienced team that has major Super Bowl hopes, having few draft picks means that GM John Lynch and Co. need to be smart with how they operate from here on out. But so far, this organization has done a great job keeping the roster intact while keeping its eyes on that Lombardi Trophy, which has alluded it for decades.

However, the window is shrinking as injuries and age are likely to continue to play a major role with the team. All-Pro performers such as tight end George Kittle, edge-rusher Nick Bosa, and linebacker Fred Warner all battled or are battling major injuries. Plus, those aforementioned players, along with All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey, Evans, and Williams, are all at least 29 years of age. This team needs to quickly take advantage of its Super Bowl window right now before it can’t anymore.
