Atlanta Braves Make Mauricio Dubon Decision Before Nationals Game

The Atlanta Braves are rolling right now. Atlanta is just one of three MLB teams with 15 wins this season (Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres).

On Monday, the Braves open up a four-game set with the Washington Nationals. Before game one, the team made a notable Mauricio Dubon update.

Per CBSSports and the official Atlanta Braves lineup announcement, Mauricio Dubon has been given the day off on Monday:

“Dubon is out of the lineup for Monday’s game against the Nationals.”

“Jorge Mateo will receive the nod at shortstop while Dubon receives a well-deserved rest after he had started in 19 consecutive games.”

The Braves traded for Dubon in a one-for-one player-swap deal with the Houston Astros back in November. Houston received Nick Allen, while Atlanta garnered Dubon in the deal.

Through 19 games this season, Mauricio Dubon is hitting .299 with two home runs, 14 RBI, and 11 runs scored in 77 at-bats. It took Atlanta over 140 games last season to get a home run out of one of its shortstops.

Will Mauricio Dubon Still be A Starter When Ha-Seong Kim Returns?

A very interesting storyline to watch for when the Braves return Ha-Seong Kim to the lineup is what will happen to Mauricio Dubon. Atlanta is paying Kim $20 million over one-year to be a primary middle infielder, but how does that dynamic work out now, given the fact Dubon has been very productive and is a stellar defender?

That’s a conundrum for Walt Weiss to worry about, but it would be hard to imagine Dubon sitting on the bench for an extended period of the time at this point.

The Atlanta Braves are the only team in Major League Baseball this year that has yet to lose a series.
