MAGA-aligned U.S. Representative Andy Ogles (R-TN) has been condemned by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle recently for spewing “vile Islamophobic” remarks, including writing on social media: “Muslims don’t belong in American society. Pluralism is a lie.”
Rep. Don Beyer (D-VA) responded: “Andy Ogles seems unable to comprehend the basic values the United States was founded on – like religious freedom under the First Amendment. Muslim Americans are our neighbors, colleagues, and friends. They belong here, but this vile Islamophobia doesn’t belong in Congress.”
Ogles on Monday shared an AI-generated video of himself dressed in an armored suit of the type worn by Christian Crusaders, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio also pictured in the armor. Ogles captioned the image: “This is a battle of good vs evil. We must reaffirm that our nation was built on Christian principles.”

[Note: The Crusades “were a series of military campaigns launched by the papacy between 1095 and 1291 against Muslim rulers.” Earlier this month, Catholic leader Pope Leo XIV objected to the “atrocious violence” in the escalating war between Iran, Israel, and the U.S., and called the death of civilians a “scandal to humanity.”]
Several X followers applauded Ogles for removing the word “Judeo” from the customary “Judeo-Christian” reference.
The Congressman replied: “Whether British or American common law, both are rooted in judeo-christian values ie the 10 commandments, shall not murder, shall not steal, etc. and New Testament teachings re sanctity of life, personal responsibility, family and social order.”
There was also some resistance to Ogles’ campaign in the comments. As one believer wrote: “I am a conservative, born-again, Spirit-filled Christian. I resent seeing my Savior’s Cross used as a symbol for war. Count me as opting out of the New Crusades.”
