LA28 adds 6 Olympic soccer venues across the nation

The LA28 Olympic Games committee announced six additional soccer stadiums across the country will host group stage and knockout round matches in the 2028 Olympics.

The 2028 Games will run July 14-30 and the Paralympic Games will take place Aug. 15-27.

“Bringing Olympic Football group stage and knockout matches to stadiums across the United States means more fans will witness this global event and experience the Olympic spirit firsthand,” LA28 Chief of Sport and Games Delivery Officer Shana Ferguson said in a statement.

The list of stadiums are San Diego’s Snapdragon Stadium (home of San Diego FC and San Diego Wave FC); San Jose’s PayPal Park (home of San Jose Earthquakes and Bay FC); St. Louis’ Energizer Park (home of St. Louis CITY SC); Nashville’s Geodis Park (home of Nashville SC); Columbus’ Scotts Miracle-Gro Field (home of the Columbus Crew); and New York City’s FC yet-to-be finished Etihad Park, which is on track to be completed next year.

The final stage matches, along with the gold-medal matches July 28 for the men and July 29 for the women, will take place at the Rose Bowl.

LA28, along with Soccer United Marketing, worked “to evaluate stadiums nationwide to ensure that the chosen venues meet the highest international standards. The review process prioritized using purpose-built stadiums where possible while also assessing each stadium’s ability to host world-class competitions and its potential to engage local communities.”

LA28 added that “given the geographic footprint of the LA28 Football (Soccer) Tournaments, LA28 is developing a match distribution that allows the competition to move progressively from east to west as teams advance toward the final stages, minimizing travel demands.”
