Yankees Provide Health Update on Jasson Dominguez Before Orioles Game

New York Yankees outfielder Jasson Dominguez suffered a brutal injury on May 6. Dominguez crashed hard into the wall in left field at Yankee Stadium chasing down a Brandon Nimmo fly ball.

Dominguez was subsequently placed on the injured list with a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder. Prospect Spencer Jones was promoted from Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre to take his place on the roster.

Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports the latest health update on Dominguez, who received a PRP injection in his injured shoulder. The outfielder is clear of concussion symptoms. Yankees manager Aaron Boone informed Hoch that it would be a few weeks before Dominguez would be back.

Dominguez, 23, originally started the year in Triple-A. After Giancarlo Stanton suffered a calf strain, the outfielder was called up to replace him in the lineup. In nine games, the switch-hitter slashed .200/.250/.365 in 32 plate appearances.

Yankees Outfield Situation Without Jasson Dominguez

For the most part, the Yankees’ outfield situation is in relatively good shape, even with Dominguez sidelined for a few weeks. Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, Trent Grisham, and Spencer Jones are sharing the three outfield spots and the designated hitter role.

Judge and Bellinger are playing at an All-Star level, as the two have posted a wRC+ of 185 and 145 respectively. Along with 2026 breakout hitter Ben Rice, the Yankees have three fearsome hitters in the middle of their lineup.

Grisham is in a minor slump, hitting .173 with a .681 OPS. Quality of contact metrics, plus excellent strikeout (17.2%) and walk (16.0%) rates, suggest he’s been performing better than the traditional metrics are saying. Grisham’s .350 xwOBA outpaces his .307 wOBA for the season.

Jones is off to a slow start to his career, going 1-for-11 with six strikeouts in four games. MLB Pipeline’s 2026 report on the 6’7″ outfielder gives him a 35 hit and 65 power tool.

Jones, a left-handed bat, will likely see opportunities primarily against right-handed pitching. He sat against left-hander Trevor Rogers in the Yankees’ win over the Orioles on May 12. Amed Rosario got the start in the game

While the Yankees await Dominguez’s recovery from his injury, the club will have to rely on Judge, Bellinger, Grisham, and a Jones/Amed Rosario platoon in the outfield and designated hitter.

Giancarlo Stanton’s Injury Situation on the Lineup

Stanton is another player who affects Dominguez and Jones’ place on the roster. The veteran slugger was placed on the 10-day injured list on April 25.

The most recent update on Stanton came on May 11. Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters they hoped to start ramping up the injured slugger’s running as the next stage of his recovery. He underwent an MRI this week to gauge how it’s healing, but nothing has been reported since.

The starting lineup will be impacted by who likely gets healthy first between Stanton and Dominguez. The former is mostly relegated to DH duty only, which will prevent the Yankees from using that spot to play all four of their outfielders.

Once Stanton is back, the Yankees will have to choose between who to send down between Jones and Dominguez. As a recent addition to the 40-man roster, Jones has all three of his minor league options. Dominguez had two options entering the 2026 season, but the second has already been burned in his previous Triple-A stint.
