The Seattle Seahawks brought one of the most accomplished defensive backs in recent franchise history home for their championship run last season.
Months later, Quandre Diggs is looking for his next NFL opportunity again.
Diggs, 33, remains a free agent as NFL teams move through 2026 training camp. That is a striking position for a player who made three consecutive Pro Bowls with Seattle from 2020 through 2022 and returned to the Seahawks in November 2025.
Diggs as an unrestricted free agent after the one-year contract he signed in 2025.
His availability is particularly interesting in Seattle because the Seahawks no longer have exactly the same safety room Diggs joined late last season.
Quandre Diggsâ Seahawks Return Lasted Through Super Bowl Run
Seattle signed Diggs to its practice squad on November 26, 2025, reuniting him with the franchise less than two years after releasing him.
For Diggs, the decision apparently required little convincing.
He called returning to Seattle a âno-brainerâ and Seahawks.com noted that Diggs and the organization had maintained a relationship after his 2024 departure.
The Seahawks needed experienced help at the time. Injuries had hit the back end of Mike Macdonaldâs defense, and Seattle elevated Diggs for its Week 13 game against the Minnesota Vikings.
His second Seattle stint was much different from the first.
Diggs had started 72 games over his first five seasons with the Seahawks. During his three-year Pro Bowl stretch from 2020 through 2022, he produced 14 interceptions and 24 passes defensed, according to the team.
By 2025, he had become a depth piece instead of the centerpiece of the secondary.
NFL.com credits Diggs with nine games for Tennessee and one with Seattle during the 2025 regular season. Pro Football Focus gave him a 66.1 overall defensive grade for the season, ranking him 42nd among 98 qualifying safeties.
That helps explain why his three Pro Bowls have not automatically translated into another contract.
But his history with Seattle makes his continued availability difficult to completely dismiss.
Seahawks Have a Different Safety Decision in 2026
The Seahawks lost starting safety Coby Bryant to the Chicago Bears in free agency, creating one of the few openings on a defense that helped Seattle win Super Bowl LX.
Seattle has chosen youth rather than another immediate Diggs reunion.
Julian Love remains the veteran anchor, while Ty Okada started 11 games in 2025 and impressed while filling in for injured teammates. Seattle also used a second-round pick on TCU safety Bud Clark.
And then there is Nick Emmanwori.
Emmanwori emerged as one of Macdonaldâs most versatile defensive weapons as a rookie, lining up everywhere from nickel to linebacker-like roles to traditional safety.
In other words, Seattle does not have an obvious Diggs-sized hole.
That could be precisely why he remains unsigned despite the familiarity.
For a contender, Diggs may now make more sense as the player a team calls after an injury than one it signs before discovering what it already has.
Seattle has seen that movie before.
When the Seahawks needed veteran safety insurance last November, Diggs was available. They called. He came back.
With August practices underway and roster decisions approaching, the remarkable part is that the option is sitting there again.
A three-time Seahawks Pro Bowler, former team captain and member of Seattleâs Super Bowl LX run is still on the market.
Whether Seattle ever needs to make that call again may depend less on Diggs than on what happens to everyone currently in front of him.
