The Atlanta Braves are winners of their eight games, and since the MLB All-Star break, Atlanta is 15-5.
On Friday, Atlanta will travel to the Bronx to face the New York Yankees in a matchup between two historic franchises. New York is currently 64-51, but is just 5-5 in its last 10 games. The Yankees will roll out a trio of aces in this series against the Braves, which is a huge test for both clubs.
New York is continuing it’s pursit of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East, but coming is extremely quickly in the Yankees’ ‘rearview’ mirror is the surging Boston Red Sox.
As for the Braves, they have opened up a comfortable lead in the NL East, but it’s always exciting two of MLB’s top clubs face each other for a weekend set. Let’s get into some odds, predictions, and the probable starters for the 8/7 contest between the Yankees and Braves.

It’s a solid pitching matchup to kick off the series between the Yankees and Braves. Atlanta will send newly-acquired pitcher Tyler Mahle (3–9, 5.13 ERA, 89 SO) to the mound, while the Yankees are rolling with Max Fried (4–3, 3.12 ERA, 68 SO)
Max Fried spent the first eight seasons of his MLB career with the Atlanta Braves before signing an eight-year, $215 million contract with the Yankees.
CBSSports’ Roto Wire staff wrote (about Tyler Mahle):
“Mahle will make his Atlanta debut with a start Friday against the Yankees in New York. Acquired from the Giants over the weekend, Mahle will slot into the back end of the Atlanta rotation as a replacement for Reynaldo Lopez (knee), who landed on the injured list Sunday. Mahle took advantage of the favorable pitching confines in San Francisco by delivering a 2.65 ERA and 1.14 WHIP over his nine starts, but those ratios swelled to 8.04 and 1.69 in nine starts away from Oracle Park.”

Braves vs. Yankees Predictions
Prediction: Yankees to win outright
Look, obviously facing a really tough offense in the Atlanta Braves, which makes this a very hard game to pick, but New York did enjoy the luxury of an off day on Thursday, whereas the Braves wrapped up their series with the Marlins late Thursday night.
It’s a favorable matchup for the Yankees’ offense, which will likely be stacked with left-handed batters against the RHP Mahle, who has also struggled tremendously on the road this season. The Yanks are coming off a series loss to the Cardinals earlier this week and feel a little more desperate for a win.
A side bet (if you’re into that sort of thing) I would also consider taking is the New York Yankees’ team total runs over. On FanDuel, it’s currently 4.5 runs, so basically betting on the Yankees to score 5+ runs on Friday evening.Â
