Report: Giants Set to Hire Ravens Special Teams Coordinator

The Baltimore Ravens are experiencing major coaching changes since the firing of John Harbaugh.

The New York Giants are expected to hire Baltimore Ravens longtime special teams coordinator, Chris Horton.

Chris Horton will follow Harbaugh to the big apple after working in Baltimore since 2014.

Chris Horton’s Resume With Baltimore

Horton’s title with New York will be assistant head coach and special teams coordinator, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

“Harbaugh sweetened the deal by adding the assistant head coach title that Willie Taggart had in Baltimore. Taggart is also expected to follow Harbaugh to New York,” Glenn Erby wrote in a Ravens Wire article.

John Harbaugh was a special teams coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles before becoming the Ravens’ head coach in 2008. As a result, the Ravens have seen some special teams success under special teams coordinator Chris Morton.

Prior to joining the Ravens, Horton was a quality control assistant at UCLA.

Horton, 41, served in Baltimore as the Ravens’ assistant special teams coach (2014-18). He became the special teams coordinator in 2019.

“Baltimore ranked in the top 10 of yards per punt return (11.1, second), punt returns of 20 yards or more (19, fourth), opponent yards per kickoff return (22.0, sixth) and kick-return touchdowns (three, tied for sixth), according to the Ravens’ bio for Horton,” according to the Ravens’ bio for Horton.

“In Football Outsiders annual special teams DVOA ratings, a metric for analyzing each play against NFL averages based on several variables, Baltimore finished in the Top 10 each year from 2012-23, with 10 Top 5 finishes, nine Top 3 finishes and the No. 1-overall spot four times,” the bio says.

Baltimore Ravens punter Jordan Stout was named an NFL First Team All-Pro for the 2025 season under Horton. Stout led the league in net punting average.

“Since 2015, when Horton joined the special teams staff, the unit has posted seven Top 5 marks and six Top 3 marks, with three No. 1 finishes,” the bio says. “Baltimore’s special teams finished ninth in Horton’s first year leading the group (2019) and posted a Top 3 mark in each of the next four seasons – with a No. 2 ranking in 2020, No. 1 ranking in 2021, No. 3 ranking in 2022 and No. 3 ranking in 2023.”

Coaching Changes in Baltimore

The Ravens hired Jesse Minter as their new head coach on January 22nd, 2026, after moving on from John Harbaugh. Minter previously served as the Los Angeles Chargers‘ defensive coordinator.

“The Ravens will undergo dramatic changes after John Harbaugh was fired and took his talents to the New York Giants,” Glenn Erby wrote in the article. “The expectation is that offensive coordinator Todd Monken will join him, and now, former Baltimore special teams coordinator Chris Horton will make the transition as well.”

The Ravens will now search for a new special teams coordinator. The team is also actively searching for an offensive coordinator to serve under Jesse Minter.

John Harbaugh is making a few lateral moves as he aims to steer the Giants in the right direction. As for the Ravens, Minter will look to lead Baltimore back to the playoffs after the Ravens missed the postseason in 2025.
