Red Sox Announce Roman Anthony Injury News Ahead Of Tigers Game

Following the exit of Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony against the Detroit Tigers on Monday, manager Chad Tracy announced that Anthony would be flying back to Boston to see a hand specialist for a wrist injury. The x-rays came back negative, but the organization just wants to be sure.

Anthony’s exit is bad news for a banged up Boston team.

The Red Sox will continue their series against the Tigers on Tuesday without the 21-year-old superstar.

Red Sox Announce That Roman Anthony Is Day-to-Day, Not Set to Hit the IL

An hour before the second matchup between the Boston Red Sox and the Tigers, MLB insider Chris Cotillo shared that Anthony has suffered a wrist sprain. The outfielder however, will not join the IL and is instead, day-to-day.

This is great news for the struggling Red Sox, who already have 12 players on the injured list.

After the game, Anthony spoke with reporters stating he “never even had any pain in my hand before.”

“Just took a swing and it didn’t feel good,” Anthony said. “As I came back in and went under to continue to swing, it just was painful.”

Fortunately, the 21-year-old is not restricted to a 10-day–or more–IL stint, and is likely going to be benched for the next couple of days for a precautionary measure.

Anthony’s bat in the lineup has finally started to heat up after a very slow start to 2026. His splits this season are .229/.354/.675, and in the last seven games Anthony has tacked on seven hits and six stolen bases.
