Jets Sign 6-Foot-5, 18-TD WR 24 Hours Before NFL Schedule Released

The New York Jets have added another pass catcher to the rotation.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini revealed on social media that the Jets have signed former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Tim Patrick.

“The Jets have agreed to terms with veteran WR Tim Patrick, who visited today. Played in 16 games last season for Jacksonville, caught 15 passes for 187 yards and 3 TDs. A veteran presence in the WR room, with inside-outside flexibility,” Cimini posted.

Patrick is listed at 6-foot-5 and weighs 210 pounds. The former Grossmont and Utah product entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2017.

Across his nine seasons in the NFL, Patrick has appeared in 87 games and has made 49 starts. With those opportunities, Patrick has been targeted 304 times and has caught 191 receptions for 2,590 receiving yards and has scored 18 touchdowns.

Patrick, 32, will turn 33 during the 2026 season.

Plenty of Connective Tissue

Patrick spent six years with the Denver Broncos from 2017 through 2023. He crossed over with current Jets general manager Darren Mougey for all six of those seasons.

Patrick’s most productive seasons in the NFL came during his time with the Broncos. During that run, he appeared in 55 games and made 37 starts. He was targeted 236 times and caught 143 passes for 2,009 receiving yards and scored 12 touchdowns.

While that was his most productive run in the pros, it was also his most challenging. In back-to-back offseasons in 2022 and 2023, he suffered a torn ACL and a blown Achilles, which ruled him out for the entirety of each of those seasons.

In 2024, Patrick joined the Detroit Lions. He crossed over with current Jets head coach Aaron Glenn for that season.

With the Lions, he appeared in 16 games and made nine starts. He was targeted 44 times and caught 33 receptions for 394 receiving yards and scored three touchdowns.

Now Patrick reunites with both of those individuals in New York on this new contract.

A Strong Depth Signing for the Jets

Garrett Wilson and Omar Cooper Jr shouldn’t lose any sleep over this addition to the wide receiver room.

However, this provides some competition for wide receiver Adonai Mitchell. If Mitchell delivers on his potential, he should have no problems beating out Patrick for the WR3 gig on this roster.

However, if he slacks off or isn’t on his A game, then Patrick could steal away targets and opportunities. Competition breeds success.

This also provides a level of insurance just in case anyone goes down with an injury. Last year, when Wilson missed the first 10 games of his career, the rest of the room folded like a cheap lawn chair.

Make no mistake about it, Wilson is the straw that stirs the drink for this offense. If he misses any time whatsoever in 2026, this offense will suffer. However, they’re better prepared to hold down the fort for a period of time with all of the additions they have made this offseason.

Patrick is a solid veteran who should bring some professionalism to the roster. Plus, he has been around Mougey and Glenn. He speaks their language and can help set the tone for the younger players on the team.
