Jalen Williams declares feelings for fans bored with Thunder’s success

Jalen Williams has expressed his feelings about some fans who felt that the OKC Thunder’s success has made the team feel stale.

According to Williams, the Thunder has been more focused on winning games than on what fans think when watching them.

“Our biggest thing as a team is we actually do not care if people are bored watching us,” he told reporters, following the Thunder’s lopsided 139-96 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday.

“We’re trying to win basketball games at the end of the day, just like everybody else. That’s our superpower. We’re not getting bored with the process. We don’t take wins like this for granted. If you don’t come and bring it, you can lose to anybody in the NBA,” he added.

The Thunder boasts a 61-16 record, the best in the NBA, just two games ahead of the second-seeded San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference.

The team has only lost once in its last 17 games and is on pace to finish the regular season as the top seed for the third straight year.

Williams has played 31 games so far this season due to injuries in his wrist early in the season and his hamstring last January. When he plays, Williams puts up 17.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game.

Against the Lakers, he had a near-triple double of 10 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists in 24 minutes.

OKC Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault watched how Jalen Williams ascended into one of the top co-stars in the NBA, resulting in a championship for the team in 2025.

Despite an up-and-down season for Williams, Daigneault still praised Williams’ overall impact on the squad, which, he said, was rooted in his competitiveness on the court.

“Energy, intensity, motor. His talent and the way that he’s ascended as a player have overshadowed one of his most impactful skills, which is the fact that he just brings the juice every single night competitively,” Daigneault said via Nick Gallo.

Williams currently shoots a career-low 29.7% from the 3-point line on 2.4 attempts per game. However, he remained an impactful defender, tallying 1.2 steals per game. He had two steals in the Thunder’s win against the Lakers, which saw OKC lead by as much as 46 points.

Williams was pivotal in the Thunder’s 2025 NBA title run, becoming the team’s second option after reigning MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Williams had his best performance in Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Indiana Pacers, where he recorded a career-high 40 points.

With five games remaining in their regular season schedule, the Thunder is already looking ahead to the playoffs.

Williams said the team has built winning habits throughout the regular season, which would key to how far the team would reach in the playoffs.

“The habits that you build throughout the year get you by in the playoffs,” he said. You’re not going to change anything that we already built throughout the whole entire year.”

The Thunder will face the Utah Jazz on Sunday, before facing the Lakers again on Wednesday. The LA Clippers, Denver Nuggets, and the Phoenix Suns will wrap up OKC’s schedule.
