Pro Golfer Suddenly Withdraws From Tournament Ahead of Final Round

It’s been a bit of a tough go for pro golfer Bryson DeChambeau, who has officially dropped out of LIV Golf Mexico City after suffering an injury.

“I experienced some discomfort in my wrist during yesterday’s round and have decided to withdraw from the final round of LIV Golf Mexico City to prevent further injury,” DeChambeau captioned a post on X on Sunday, April 19. “Not how I wanted this week to go, but wishing the Crushers a strong finish. I’m going to take a few days to get evaluated and hope to be ready for LIV Golf Virginia.”

DeChambeau, 32, is coming off a major upset at last week’s Masters as he missed the cut with an even-par 71 after the first round.

Fans Reacted to DeChambeau’s Statement on Social Media,

Shortly after DeChambeau’s statement, dozens of social media users responded with some asking the two time Major winner to leave LIV and return to the PGA.

“Can you withdraw from LIV as a whole please Bryson. We love you and want you to be the best golfer you can be, and to do so you need to go back to the PGA tour,” one person wrote.

“Just come back to PGA. You got ur bag, now come back,” someone else added.

“Wishing you well Bryson. Hope you make a full recovery. Keep up all the good work you are doing for the sport,” a third comment read.

“Please come back to the PGA Bryson. That is all I want for Christmas,” a fourth X user said.

DeChambeau’s current LIV contract—a 4.5-year deal worth over $125 million—ends later this year. In January 2026, the Golf Channel quoted DeChambeau as saying that he was hoping to play for LIV next year. Despite the ongoing rumors, it’s unknown what his 2027 plans are.

DeChambeau Didn’t Have the Best Outing in Mexico City

Despite playing well for LIV this year (he won the last two LIV Golf events, in Singapore and South Africa), DeChambeau’s outing in Mexico City this week was rough. According to Golf Digest, he shot 71-71-73 for a two-over total, which landed him 16 shots behind current leader Jon Rahm.

As for his current injury, it’s unclear when his wrist started bothering him. Following the first round at the Masters, DeChambeau didn’t mention an injury, instead blaming the weather (wind) and course conditions.

“Bunker was softer than I anticipated,” he replied when asked what happened to the eleventh hole at Augusta National, according to Golf.com. The outlet also reported that DeChambeau was terse with reporters during the interview.

Those hoping to see DeChambeau back on the course will have to wait a few weeks. LIV Golf Virginia is scheduled for May 7-10.
