Vikings Get Major Update About De’Von Achane Trade

Even though the Vikings re-upped on Aaron Jones’ deal, they are still firmly in the market for a young runningback.

It was a surprise to many when Jones agreed to a revised deal to return to Minnesota. Most figured the Vikings were in the market for one of the top available free agent backs. At the least, they’ve been firmly in conversations regarding the potential selection of a Day 2 back.

The Jones re-signing silenced the talks of Minnesota spending real money on the position via free agency. However, with the assumption this is Jones’ last year in purple, they are still a shoe-in to draft one.

Speculation blew up even more when the Dolphins traded away Jaylen Waddle. It was taken as a signal by the general NFL fanbase that Miami was putting its best players up for sale amid a rebuild.

This led Vikings fans to ponder the possibility of swinging a deal for RB De’Von Achane.

However, the Dolphins just poured some cold water on the theory.

Vikings Get Concerning Update About De’Von Achane Trade

Dustin Baker of Vikings Territory recently shared words from Dolphins GM Jon-Eric Sullivan on Wednesday.

He’s not available for trade. Things are going good. We’ve had some positive conversations over the last couple of days, trending in the right direction.

Obviously, he’s very important to what we’re doing. It’s part of professional sports. We’ll get where we need to be one way or another, but things are trending in the right direction.”

Baker also added that Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk weighed in on the discussion.

While there might be an offer that changes the Dolphins’ view of holding onto Achane for the long term, it doesn’t sound like there’s much reason to believe he will be anywhere but Miami come the fall.”

As of now, Vikings fans have no tangible evidence to cling to in order to hold out hope for Achane in Minnesota. At least, for this offseason, that is.

Minnesota Receives Concerning Take Regarding a J.J. McCarthy Trade

J.J. McCarthy, Vikings

The former Michigan Wolverine received a vote of little confidence to return the Vikings much draft capital in a trade from Dustin Baker of Vikings Territory.

Maybe I’m the only one who continues to believe this, but I don’t think the Vikings are really trying to have a quarterback competition between J.J. McCarthy and Kyler Murray. I don’t think McCarthy’s trade value is going to go anywhere but down from here.

If the Vikings are eventually going to deal him, this is the window — either during this draft or afterward — with a team that is looking for a young developmental backup. This is going to become an Anthony Richardson/Zach Wilson scenario quickly, where there is just no value to be had from a former high draft pick. And something to keep in mind about whether McCarthy is even tradable: Malik Willis’ starting career looked like it was torched after his first two years with the Tennessee Titans, but he landed in the right place in Green Bay and turned it around.

McCarthy needs that kind of new start. If they can get a look at a guy at a reasonable price, teams will deal for quarterbacks if they haven’t completely gone off a cliff yet.”

If the Vikings are to trade McCarthy, it’s not likely that it will be this offseason.

Minnesota would likely do so next offseason before they must make a decision on his fifth-year option. If Murray were to start all 17 games this year, then theoretically, McCarthy’s trade value could go back up a little.

Minnesota could sell teams on McCarthy “working hard” behind the scenes. The league respects Kevin O’Connell, and someone probably wouldn’t mind taking a dart-throw at one of this projects.
