The year 2026 had started so well for the New York Giants, with John Harbaugh as the head coach of the future and a quarterback who definitely has what it takes to be a franchise quarterback.
What had once felt like a dream start to the year took a sudden, brutal turn. On Friday, a bombshell dropped that sent shockwaves through the organization and its fanbase. According to ESPN News Services, the release of the so-called Epstein Files—more than three million pages tied to the late and disgraced former financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein—includes at least 440 mentions of New York Giants co-owner Steve Tisch.
Steve Tisch’s connection to the Giants dates back more than three decades. In 1991, his father, Preston Robert Tisch, acquired a 50 percent stake in the franchise. Since that time, ownership of the team has been shared between the Mara family and the Tisch family. In late 2025, the families began selling a minority stake of 10 percent to the Koch family.
Tisch himself stepped into a leadership role in 2005, when he was named chairman and executive vice president of the organization.
Tisch Released a Statement Detailing His Relationship With Epstein
According to The Athletic, documents released by the Department of Justice describe Epstein as acting as an intermediary for meetings between Tisch and different women in 2013. In one exchange, Epstein suggested arranging an introduction, prompting the Giants chairman to ask whether the woman was “fun.”
Additional messages included Tisch seeking clarification about another woman, asking if she was a “working girl,” a claim Epstein denied in his response. In a separate interaction, Tisch also questioned whether a different woman was a “pro or civilian.”
According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, Steve Tisch, the Giants and NFL didn’t immediately respond for a request to comment. Later that day, in response to the email reports, the Giants provided a statement from Tisch, detailing his relationship with Epstein.
Raanan posted Tisch’s statement on X (formerly Twitter): “We had a brief association where we exchanged emails about adult women, and in addition, we discussed movies, philanthropy, and investments. I did not take him up on any of his invitations and never went to his island. As we all know now, he was a terrible person and someone I deeply regret associating with.”
Epstein was found dead by suicide in a New York jail in August 2019, just a month after his indictment on federal sex trafficking charges.
Tisch Wasn’t the Only Owner Connected to Epstein
Tisch wasn’t the only NFL owner connected to Epstein on Friday. Newly released documents revealed a business relationship between Epstein and Josh Harris.
Harris, a private equity firm billionaire, is the co-owner of the Washington Commanders. He’s also co-owner and managing partner of the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Devils. However, all correspondence went through assistants and pertained to Epstein coordinating business meetings when Harris worked at Apollo Global Management.
For the Giants, the news comes at a time that began with high hopes and the promise of a bright future under head coach John Harbaugh.
Off the field, the organization now faces intense scrutiny, reminding fans and executives alike that some headlines hit harder than any on-field loss.
