The Kansas City Chiefs were notably absent from the NFL playoffs this winter, which will culminate in Super Bowl LX tonight on February 8, as the New England Patriots square off against the Seattle Seahawks.
However, just before the game, Chiefs superstar Chris Jones made some news of his own, dropping a bold prediction on X.
“Took a year off, we will be back to it next year!” Jones guaranteed on social media.
Obviously, based on the timing of his post, it’s safe to assume Jones is referring to the Super Bowl.
The Chiefs have either won or lost the NFL championship game in five of the past six seasons, leading up to 2025. Unfortunately, this year’s campaign was a disaster for Kansas City, as they missed the postseason for the first time during the Patrick Mahomes era with a record of 6-11.
To make matters worse, Mahomes tore his ACL late in the year, putting his Week 1 status in doubt next year.
Despite that, Jones is exuding a ton of confidence just before Super Bowl LX. And it’s not the first time!
In February of 2019, Jones predicted that the Chiefs “will win it next year” on X.
The end result? A Super Bowl victory for KC in February of 2020.
Chris Jones Can Help Chiefs Get Back to Super Bowl With 1 Important Offseason Move

Some have speculated over whether or not Jones could be traded, but he’s most likely not going anywhere in 2026. Having said that, Jones can come to an offseason agreement that would help KC as they try to get back to the Super Bowl.
Jones’ contract carries a massive $44.85 million cap hit in 2026, according to Over the Cap. That’s the bad news.
The good news is that the Chiefs can very easily restructure Jones’ contract, lessening his cap hit.
Jones has a base salary of $19 million in 2026, which gives KC general manager Brett Veach a relatively obvious way of freeing up some extra money. If some or all of this base salary is converted into a bonus of some sort, that $44 million-plus cap number will go down.
And if the Chiefs are going to get back to the Super Bowl in 2026-27, it all starts with freeing up cap space.
After the NFL announced that the salary cap will rise up over $300 million this offseason, Over the Cap now projects that Kansas City has a negative cap deficit of a little over $54.91 million.
That means Veach has to clear over $54 million before the start of the new league year in March, and Jones will likely be one avenue that the GM chooses to do so.
