The Toronto Blue Jays are currently taking on the Los Angeles Dodgers in a highly anticipated 2025 World Series rematch. The Dodgers got the best of the Blue Jays in game one, by winning 14-1.
In the midst of a handful of losses in their first 10 games, the Blue Jays can’t catch an injury break. On Tuesday, it was announced that Cody Ponce will need surgery to repair the sprained anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He’d already been placed on the 60-day Injured List, but considering the timeline for his return with an injury like this is six to eight months, Ponce’s season is likely over, which is a crushing blow for the Blue Jays.
Cody Ponce was hoping to revitalize his MLB career by signing a three-year, $30 million deal.

Cody Ponce had spent four seasons away from Major League Baseball in attempts to revive his career.
He earned top honors in Japan and Korea, which ultimately led to him signing the $30 million deal this offseason.
Unfortunately, Ponce was only able to pitch 2.1 innings for Toronto this season before going down with what had looked like a severe leg injury at the time.
MLBTradeRumors.com was quick to the injury news, and gave this assessment of the situation:
“Itâs an unsurprising but devastating blow for Ponce. He was making his team debut last week when he obviously injured himself trying to field a grounder. He collapsed on the ground in pain and had to be carted off the field. The next day, he was diagnosed with an ACL sprain, though he had avoided a full tear and surgery wasnât definite.”

Toronto Blue Jays Injury Concern
Although his is undoubtedly the most serious and crushing, Cody Ponce is apart of a long list of Blue Jays starters injured.
In game one of the Blue Jays-Dodgers series, Max Scherzer could only pitch two innings before leaving the game with forearm tendinitis.
Along with Ponce, Trey Yesavage, Jose Berrios, and Shane Bieber are all on the Injured List.
It’s certainly possible that Scherzer heads to the IL as soon as Tuesday or Wednesday as well.
Patrick Corbin has been recalled for the Dodgers series, but that likely doesn’t give Jays fans a great deal of optimism.
With the injuries to Yesavage, Berrios, and Bieber, they don’t project to be extremely severe, and all three starters, barring any setbacks, should make their season debuts sometime within the next month.
