Trump Suggests He Set Up Jasmine Crockett, Withholding “Avalanche of Information” on James Talarico

Rep. Jasmine Crockett

President Donald Trump suggested that he played a part in the defeat of Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) by state representative James Talarico in the Texas Democratic primary, writing a social media post that claimed he “allowed” Talarico to win by controlling the information the electorate was able to access about the successful candidate.

[NOTE: Talarico will face either incumbent Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) or Texas AG Ken Paxton in November. The two Republicans are in a primary runoff, both competing without an endorsement from Trump, who evidently had an easier time choosing the Democrat he wanted to win.]

Calling Talarico a “weak, ineffective guy” and “worse than” Crockett, Trump implied that he withheld an “avalanche of information we had on [Talarico]” because it would be easier for the Republican, whoever it is, to beat the young Texas state senator than to beat Rep. Crockett.

Talarico will be so easy to defeat, according to Trump, that a “sick, incompetent, close to death or, even a child, would win” against the Democrat — though Trump did not say if he believed either Cornyn or Paxton was sick, incompetent, or close to death.

Trump’s excoriation of Talarico was swiftly subsumed during the course of his single post by the President’s growing focus — to judge by the attention Trump gives him — on California Governor Gavin Newsom, whom Trump says is the only candidate “worse” than Talarico. Newsom has been the most prominent national voice in opposition to Trump, mimicking the President’s rhetorical style in a series of mocking posts issued by his Press Office account on X.

Newsom is at present not officially running for office, though Trump’s post assumes he will run for President in 2028. Finished bashing Talarcio, Trump writes of Newsom — whom he invariably calls by a childish nickname — that the California Governor “admits he’s a Low IQ individual” which, Trump says, “is not good for winning the Presidency.”
