The Minnesota Vikings havenât declared a starting quarterback yet, and might not for some time, but that hasnât stopped people from making their own assumptions.Â
After an up-and-down year in 2025 with J.J. McCarthy, the Vikings went out and added Kyler Murray in free agency. And while the battle for the starting job is just starting, Murray seems to have the advantage by most accounts. In fact, former linebacker and current ESPN analyst Bart Scott thinks that not only will Murray win the job, but heâll also be the best quarterback in a division that also features Jared Goff, Jordan Love and Caleb Williams.Â
âI believe this is the most competitive division in football and I think the team that’s going to really surprise a lot of people it’s the Minnesota Vikings,â said Scott. “At the end of this season, I think we may say that Kyler Murray is the most talented quarterback within that division.â
âYou pair him with Kevin O’Connell with the weapons that he hasâa tight end in T.J. Hockenson, Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison. Then you go out and get a gritty guy like Jauan Jennings. I think the sky’s the limit for Kyler Murray.â
Could Kyler Murray be the One to Turn the Vikings Offense Around?
After going No. 1 overall in 2019, Murray has experienced a roller coaster career with the Arizona Cardinals. He had his best season as a pro in 2020, throwing for nearly 4,000 yards while adding another 800 on the ground, but has yet to reach those same heights again.Â
The Vikings are hoping to kickstart Murrayâs career again in Minnesota after injuries and a poor surrounding cast derailed his trajectory with Arizona. And while thereâs no guarantee he even wins the starting role, thereâs no shortage of optimism that he could become âthe guyâ for the Vikings.Â
âI think this is Kyler Murrayâs job to lose,â Damien Woody said onâGet Up.â âI think Kyler Murray is immensely talented. Remember, he was the No. 1 overall pick a few years ago.
âWith the infrastructure that the Minnesota Vikings have at their disposal, including the receivers, the head coach, the play-caller and the other pieces on offense, I think Kyler Murray is going to win this job.â
The Vikings Won’t Have a New GM Anytime Soon
While the QB battle rages on this summer, another big task is sitting in front of the Vikings. After firing general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in January, Minnesota has been operating without a GM, having longtime executive Rob Brzezinski fill in as interim in the meantime. Despite the long period without a successor, that issue doesnât seem to be resolving itself any time soon according to a recent report from Jonathan Jones of CBS.Â
âVirtual interviews began yesterday and continue today,â he wrote on X. âWith league meetings next week followed by a holiday, itâs possible in-person second round interviews wonât take place until after Memorial Day.âÂ
If the Vikings adhere to that timeline, it could be well into June at the earliest before a hire is made.Â
