Gavin Newsom Calls Out “Political Theater” Behind Trump Cabinet Member Move

Kelly Loeffler

After an ICE official fatally shot an American citizen in broad daylight on a street in Minneapolis, President Trump’s administrator of the Small Business Administration, Kelly Loeffler, responded by announcing that she has ordered SBA to relocate the agency’s district office in the city.

Loeffler wrote: “Following the events of this week, and the overwhelming local hostility toward Immigration and Customs Enforcement, I have ordered @SBAgov to begin relocation of our agency’s Minneapolis district office.”

She added: “Since Day One, I have been clear that SBA will not continue to surge resources to communities that refuse to protect their small business owners by impeding this Administration’s efforts to deport and detain criminal illegal aliens. We will relocate our offices to cities that comply with federal law – and take seriously their responsibility to promote public safety on Main Street.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom‘s Press Office replied to Loeffler on social media: “Nothing says ‘cutting government waste’ like spending taxpayer money to pack up an entire federal office and move it for political theater.”

Another critic of Loeffler replied, “A laudable sentiment but a bit disingenuous. Aren’t there only a handful of employees in Minneapolis?”

Note: According to the SBA Minneapolis staff directory, there are eight employees working at the Great Lakes Region office which serves all 87 counties in Minnesota. The SBA Administrator is a Cabinet-level official requiring Senate confirmation.
