The Los Angeles Dodgers are riding a six-game losing streak entering Friday night’s series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
However, ahead of a matchup featuring Roki Sasaki on the mound for Los Angeles and Merrill Kelly for the Diamondbacks, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced that a major reinforcement will return to the starting rotation.
Blake Snell Returning
Snell made his last start on May 9 before undergoing surgery roughly a week later to remove loose bodies from his left elbow. The procedure landed him on the 60-day injured list.
He began a rehab assignment on July 18 and made his fourth and final start Tuesday, Aug. 4, when he pitched 3.2 innings and threw 73 pitches.
Now, Snell is set to return to the Dodgers’ rotation. Roberts revealed before Friday’s game that Snell will start Tuesday night against the Kansas City Royals.
His start will come one day after Tarik Skubal makes his home debut as a member of the Dodgers Monday night.

Snell’s Dodgers Tenure
Snell is in his 11th MLB season but just his second with the Dodgers, making 12 starts across those two seasons.
He has made just one start this season after opening the year on the injured list. Last season, left shoulder inflammation forced him to miss several months, but he still made 11 starts and pitched effectively when healthy.
Snell went 5-4 across those 11 starts, posting a 2.35 ERA with 72 strikeouts over 61.1 innings.
He’ll now join a rotation featuring Skubal, Sasaki, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and likely Justin Wrobleski. The Dodgers could also keep Eric Lauer as a sixth starter, while Tyler Glasnow remains on the IL and Shohei Ohtani continues to sit out as a pitcher because of a lingering knee injury.
