Red Sox Get Triston Casas News Amid Uncertain Injury Timeline

The Boston Red Sox acquired first baseman Willson Contreras via a trade earlier this offseason, which leaves the team at a crossroads with what to do with Triston Casas, who missed the majority of the 2025 season with a ruptured patellar tendon in his leg.

As spring training and the MLB regular season get closer, Triston Casas’s rehab will continue to be a major storyline within the Red Sox organization. He was thought to be from Boston’s future first baseman, but if this recovery timeline goes even further south, his future with the Red Sox altogether might be in jeopardy.

Red Sox Insider Reveals Triston Casas Injury Timeline

According to Red Sox insider and MLB.com writer Ian Browne, Triston Casas will likely be out until at least May 1st:

“Casas likely won’t be a full go until May 1 or so as he recovers from a ruptured left patellar tendon. That might allow the Sox to slow play his situation. It seems likely he will take his first at-bats while on a 20-day Minor League rehab assignment. He also has options remaining, so the Sox could extend his stay in Triple-A Worcester to help Casas regain his timing.”

Browne mentions that Triston Casas could be the team’s DH once he returns, but that decision would depend on how well the current Red Sox DH is hitting.

Another aspect of this Casas news that may be imminent is that the Red Sox could move him to the 60-day injured list just a few days after spring training starts, which would actually give Boston some more roster flexibility.

Triston Casas’ Career With the Red Sox

Triston Casas has appeared in fewer than 70 games in each of the past two seasons, and if his rehab for this torn patellar tendon doesn’t go as planned, it’s likely he won’t play in 70+ games in the 2026 season either.

2023 was the big year for Casas with the Red Sox, as he hit 24 home runs in 132 games, and posted a slash line of .367/.490/.856

After getting off to a strong start in 2024, the injuries started to catch up, and up until that point, the only question mark surrounding Casas’ level of play was whether he could stay on the field.

Now he holds another question mark on whether he can recreate some of the production he had earlier in his career once he returns to MLB.

He’s still just 26-years-old, and comes with a few more seasons of team control, which also makes him a trade candidate because he isn’t an expensive option either.

However, the Red Sox will likely closely monitor his injury situation, and there’s sure to be a lot more updates in the future.
