New York Yankees Make Gerrit Cole Announcement Before Rangers Game

The New York Yankees are playing like the best team in Major League Baseball right now, and despite being without the services of Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon in the starting rotation, the Yankees pitching staff is one of the best groups in baseball.

On Wednesday, the Yankees will look to sweep the Texas Rangers. New York won 4-2 in the first game on Monday, and then defeated Texas 3-2 on Tuesday. Before the Rangers game, the Yankees made a reassignment decision with Gerrit Cole.

When Will Gerrit Cole Return to the Yankees?

After undergoing Tommy John Surgery last season, Gerrit Cole is going through the entire rehab process and making all the stops along the way in the Yankees’ minor league system.

Manager Aaron Boone indicated last week that Carlos Rodon is a little bit ahead of Cole in his rehab progress. It’s fair to assume the Yankees will return Gerrit Cole to the rotation sometime in mid-late May, but it will likely be in front of the home fans at Yankee Stadium.

Yankees Right Now…

As mentioned, the Yankees are playing like the best team in baseball over the first month of the season, and that’s been without Gerrit Cole and others.

As the rotation is concerned, New York has received excellent contributions from Will Warren and Cam Schlittler, which has led to the Yankees having one of the best rotations right now.

New York is 20-10 and has won nine of its last 10 games. They will, of course, have to keep their foot on the gas pedal because the American League figures to get really competitive as the summer months approach.

Yankees reporter Bryan Hoch wrote, via X earlier:

“Anthony Volpe is playing today for Double-A Somerset. Aaron Boone did not commit when asked if Volpe will rejoin the Yankees on Friday in New York. “We’ll see. It’s Wednesday. We’ve got this game and he’s playing in Somerset today. We’ll see.”
