Julian Edelman has filed a civil lawsuit in Massachusetts, alleging he was not compensated following the sale of a company he helped grow.
The former New England Patriots wide receiver filed the lawsuit on April 17 in Suffolk Superior Court, according to court records.
What Edelman Alleges in the Lawsuit
In the filing, Edelman alleges he played a key role in the growth of a Boston-based digital advertising firm, Superdigital, which was later sold in a deal reportedly valued at approximately $50 million.
Edelman claims he was brought into the business by founder Assaf Swissa and was referred to as a partner as the company expanded. The lawsuit alleges his involvement helped elevate the companyâs profile and business opportunities.
However, Edelman alleges he did not receive any share of the proceeds when the company was sold.
The filing claims Swissa âdecided to capitalize on the value he grew on Edelmanâs back,â and excluded him from the transaction.
From Close Friends to Legal Dispute
The lawsuit also details a personal relationship between Edelman and Swissa, describing them as close friends during the companyâs development.
According to the filing, that relationship deteriorated following the sale of the business. Edelman alleges tensions escalated after a confrontation tied to a project the two were working on at the time.
Edelman claims he was never compensated despite years of involvement with the company.
What Edelman Is Seeking
Edelman is seeking damages as well as a portion of the proceeds from the sale, arguing he was entitled to compensation based on his role in helping build the business.
As of now, no formal response from Swissa has been publicly detailed in connection with the lawsuit.
What Comes Next
Civil cases of this nature can take time to resolve, particularly when disputes center on partnership status and financial entitlement.
The case will likely hinge on documentation, agreements, and how Edelmanâs role within the company is defined in court.
Another Chapter After Football
Edelman, a Super Bowl MVP and one of the defining players of the Patriotsâ dynasty era, has remained active in business and media since retiring from the NFL.
This lawsuit represents a shift from his on-field legacy to a legal battle over a high-value business deal.
