Julius Randle Keeps Anthony Edwards’ Injury Status a Mystery Before Game 1

In San Antonio, Texas, the Minnesota Timberwolves are preparing for Game 1 against the San Antonio Spurs on Monday, May 4.

Will the game feature the star guard, Anthony Edwards? The Timberwolves have been teasing a potential return for “Ant-Man” over the past 24 hours, but the injury report continues to suggest he’s 50/50.

When you ask the star forward Julius Randle, you get nothing.

“Uhh, he’s pushing for Game 1?” Randle asked a reporter who uttered that in his question.

When Randle was informed that Edwards was on the injury report, listed as questionable, the veteran forward claimed he was clueless about it.

“I don’t even know the injury report, man. He’s trying to box me in a corner. To you [questionable means pushing to play], questionable to me could mean like, who knows? You’ll see at 8:30,” Randle finished.

Edwards went down with a knee injury during the Timberwolves’ Game 4 matchup against the Denver Nuggets. He checked out after 17 minutes. After receiving his MRI, which revealed a hyperextension and bone bruise in his knee, Edwards was deemed week-to-week. He missed the final two games of the first-round series.

Many questioned whether Edwards could play at all in round two. His questionable injury designation ahead of Game 1 surely seems to suggest he’ll be back sooner than expected.

“I’m on record calling him Wolverine,” Randle said of Edwards, following a shootaround session on Monday.

“I just remember last year, being here at the beginning of the year and like, he would take like a nasty fall or like a hit or whatever, and like we might have to call a timeout and we’re like, ‘Damn, he might be hurt for real.’ Then he just gets up. I’m not surprised. He loves to play the game, so he’s going to do whatever he can to be out here.”

The basketball world knows that Edwards has been putting in work to return soon. A report on Monday morning noted that Edwards was a shootaround participant. While Randle refused to say how Edwards looked in that session, his message was clear: Anthony Edwards is as tough as Wolverine. If he can get cleared, he will push to play.
