Government offices — Los Angeles city and county, and state — and also courts and libraries are closed for labor leader César E. Chávez’s birthday holiday.

Los Angeles city and county offices and libraries are closed on March 25 in observance of César Chávez Day.

César Chávez Day is not a federal holiday.

Chávez was born on March 31, 1927 in Yuma, Arizona. He died on April 23, 1993 in San Luis, Arizona, and is buried at the former headquarters of the United Farm Workers, in Keene, California, in Kern County (www.nationalparks.org/explore/parks/cesar-e-chavez-national-monument).
