Suspect in fatal stabbing at Belmont Shore eatery arrested at LAX

A 29-year-old Huntington Beach man was arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing a man inside a Belmont Shore eatery on Sunday.

The stabbing occurred inside Dave’s Hot Chicken Restaurant on the 5200 block of East 2nd Street, where a 20-year-old Long Beach man was stabbed during a fight between two groups of people, police said. The suspect and other people fled, and the victim later died at the hospital.

On Monday, the suspect, identified as Brandon Nguyen, was arrested at the Los Angeles International Airport and booked at the Long Beach City Jail on suspicion of murder. He is being held without bail, police said.

“We will not tolerate acts of violence in our community and we will commit all available resources to ensuring that those responsible for crimes like this are held accountable,” Chief of Police Wally Hebeish said in a statement.

The victim’s identity has not been released. Details on other potential suspects or the circumstances leading up to the argument were not available.
