Rain forces NHRA Winternationals to scramble in Pomona

POMONA — It might be springtime, but winter weather conditions played havoc with the NHRA Winternationals on Saturday when two qualifying sessions were rescheduled in each major class.

Morning rain left the track at In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip too wet for racing. Then, just as crews had the track dry, a downpour at about 1:30 halted racing again. It was eventually decided to hold one qualifying session in each class, beginning at 5 p.m.

With more rain is predicted for Sunday, the start time for the elimination finals was moved up to 10 a.m. from 11 a.m.

More to come on this story.
