LA City Councilmember John S. Lee hosts the Lunar New Year event

Residents were invited to celebrate the 2026 Lunar New Year on Saturday at a community event in Northridge Park honoring the Year of the Horse.

Los Angeles City Councilmember John S. Lee said, “Lunar New Year is a meaningful celebration of renewal, family, and tradition. This event serves as a wonderful opportunity to bring our community together to welcome the Year of the Horse and recognize the cultural heritage that enriches our city.”

The celebration featured giveaways, food, and family friendly activities.

Among the events that day, the members of CHEER (Community for Holistic Education and Empowerment of Civic Responsibility) practiced their routine before performing; and members of the Lau Martial Club performed the Lion Dance; and members of the Valley Youth Philharmonic Orchestra performed.

Councilmember Lee added, “In a community with strong equestrian roots, celebrating the Year of the Horse carries special significance. Events like this give families the chance to learn about different cultures and traditions, connect with one another, and take pride in the diversity that makes Los Angeles such a vibrant city.”
