LOS ANGELES — Angel City Football Club opened the book on the 2024 season, but it wasn’t a good chapter.

Bay FC’s Asisat Oshoala scored in the 31st minute and Northern California-based expansion team held on for the 1-0 win in front of a soldout crowd of 22,000 at BMO Stadium Sunday.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Angel City trailed 1-0 at halftime, but opened the second half pressuring Bay FC, but wasn’t able to solve goalkeeper Lysianne Proulx.

Just before the end of 90 minutes, another chance popped up for Angel City. Messiah Bright made a run down the right, Sydney Leroux was able to get a touch to redirect the ball, but after deflecting off of Proulx, Bay FC defender Caprice Dydasco came up with a goal-line clearance.
