A scary incident took place Thursday afternoon in Yankee Stadium during the New York Yankees-Texas Rangers series finale. The Yankees ended up winning 9-2, and taking the series from the Rangers, which improved New York to 26-12.
However, early in the game, Yankees’ outfielder Jasson Dominguez ranged back for a fly ball in left field, and had to be removed from the game after crashing hard into the ball and was shaken up pretty badly on the play.
After the Yankees game, it was announced that Dominguez is heading to the IL. Per @TalkinYanks: “Jasson Dominguez will go on the IL due to a low grade AC sprain in his left shoulder, though he did test negative for a concussion.”
Update: Aaron Boone was asked about if Volpe will get called up, and he responded with “we’ll see, we’ll talk about it” which has been the common memo when the Yankees manager has been asked about the situation.
The Yankees will likely make some sort of roster move in response to this injury, and it’s fair to assume it will be either Anthony Volpe or Spencer Jones that could get the call, but who should it be?

Who Will Take Jasson Dominguez’s Place in the Outfield?

Look, with Jasson Dominguez on the Injured List, Giancarlo Stanton still on the IL, and Ben Rice missing a handful of days with a thumb injury, the Yankees are at a crossroads with their position player group.
According to the Yankees’ depth chart, Amen Rosario is the most likely candidate to get some reps in the outfield, but that will open up a new bench spot, which could potentially be for Anthony Volpe or Spencer Jones.
The Anthony Volpe saga has been well covered, but Spencer Jones’ strikeout rate in Triple-A is too apparent to ignore right now, so Volpe, as much as it will pain Yankees fans to say it, might be getting recalled just to fill a bench spot for now.
Spencer Jones is hitting much better in Triple-A than is Volpe, but he strikes out nearly 43% of the time… in the minors. Volpe is also prone to strikeouts, but he’s the most tenured big leaguer playing in the minors right now.

Yankees Fans, Who Should Take the Place of Jasson Dominguez?

It’s plausible that neither Anthony Volpe nor Spencer Jones may get the call to the Yankees’ big league club, but you have to figure an announcement could be made here shortly on who will replace Jasson Dominguez.
Yankees fans, who do you think it should be? Anthony Volpe, Spencer Jones, or another minor league player. It’s also possible the Yankees make a small trade if they truly still want to keep Volpe and Spencer Jones in the minors, but Volpe is still technically on the Yankees’ 40-man roster, so he could be the favorite at this moment.
Also, a side note, this is a really tough piece of injury news for Jasson Dominguez, who had just been recalled from Triple-A in the wake of the Stanton injury, and it was a good opportunity to prove himself with the big league team. Hope that he recovers quickly, and it isn’t a prolonged injury.
