It was only like an hour ago that Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry returned from a painfully-long absence.
He doesn’t even want to begin thinking about something like that again.
Not now, not ever again.
Last night, the Warriors bottomed out in a gut-wrenching loss to the (tanking) Sacramento Kings. The defeat doesn’t impact their standings — neither does a win or loss in the next game — because they are locked into the 10th seed. But still. The Kings? Really?
Golden State is simply desperate.

Desperate to get healthy, desperate to get their best players to play significant minutes before the play-in game in a few days, desperate to get out of this whacky, forgettable, unlovable season.
All signs point to the Warriors’ season coming to an end as soon as this Wednesday evening when the team plays a single-elimination game.
Those signs would be all but confirmed if anything happens to Curry again.
Stephen Curry Shares Update After Banging Knee in Loss to Kings
With how devastating the season has been from an injury standpoint, more injuries cannot come as a surprise to anyone.
Curry missed 27 straight games, Jimmy Butler’s season was over back in January, Moses Moody was thrust into a long, exhausting rehab last month … what more needs to be said.
Curry returned from injury last week against the Houston Rockets. Even in a loss, he showed he perhaps has enough to single-handedly get the Dubs through two play-in games and set up a date with the defending champs in the first round. That feeling has dissipated rather significantly ever since.
The Warriors experienced a major scare when their 38-year-old superstar rolled his ankle in the opening minutes of last night’s game.
It just looked like one of those injuries a close-to-40-year-old would sustain in an already ugly season.
Curry soaked his ankle in ice water and went on to play 27 minutes, the most in the three games he’s been back. But the Chef wasn’t stirring any pots to kick off the weekend. He ended the game with just 11 points and took just eight shots.
Fortunately, Curry shared a positive update on his ankle after the game.
“As long as it’s not my knee,” Curry said, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. “I can deal with ankles. I’ve been dealing with that forever. So that was the interesting part. My knee felt pretty good. Even better than last game.”
The Warriors See the Writing on the Wall
Golden State’s season, for all intents and purposes, felt over Jan. 13, the night Butler suffered a torn ACL.
Some hope remerged at the trade deadline when the Warriors landed Kristaps Porzingis. But with Curry’s long absence and Porzingis dealing with ailments of his own, the two stars haven’t received the opportunity to learn enough about playing with one another. It is devastating to think the Warriors will lack continuity between their two best scorers heading into the play-in game.
The final glimmer of hope has been what it has been for months: Curry and prayer.
If someone can pull a rabbit out of his hat, it is No. 30 in blue and yellow. He’s the only reason why Dubs nation is still hanging around this season.
Golden State has one game and three full days from today to prepare for Wednesday’s do-or-die contest.
