Timberwolves Make Key Anthony Edwards Decision Amid Child Support Dispute

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has battled through a season of incredible highs and devastating lows. 

A perennial All-Star and a growing fan favorite, Edwards has turned himself into one of the top sensations in the NBA. His dunks are often replayed over and over again on social media and his postgame sounds are often can’t-miss.

While doing all of that, Edwards has been the engine of a team that has gone to two straight Western Conference finals. Clearly, the Timberwolves have been doing something right with Edwards at the helm, but they just haven’t been able to climb over the hump.

Of course, there is fierce competition in the West, starting with the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, who eliminated Minnesota in five games in last season’s playoffs. 

This season, the Wolves have faced major inconsistencies. They’ve looked like a contender one night and mediocre the next. Edwards’ play hasn’t been anything close to erratic — he’s averaging a career high in points while shooting better than he ever has from the field and the 3-point line  — but he has seen up-and-down play from his supporting cast. 

Minnesota slipped in the standings after a midseason hot-stretch. The team is slotted in the sixth seed for now, exactly where it was to finish last season. 

TWolves Reveal Anthony Edwards’ Status for Season Finale

Minnesota won in a shootout last night against the Houston Rockets. The Wolves put up 136 points and narrowly escaped with a victory, presenting win No. 48 on the season. 

Edwards, who has fought through a late-season injury, was productive in the limited minutes he took the floor. The 24-year-old guard missed 1o of the previous 12 games entering Friday night. The last leg of the season has not been kind to Edwards, who is still battling a knee injury that began bothering him well over a month ago. 

In 27 minutes, Edwards logged 22 points on 7-for-14 shooting from the floor and 3-for-7 from long-range. A win saved the Timberwolves from potentially falling into the play-in tournament, something that appeared quite possible when Edwards was shut down earlier this season for multiple weeks. 

Minnesota will wrap up this funky season at home tomorrow night against the (tanking) New Orleans Pelicans. Even though the Timberwolves won’t have their best collection of talent on the floor, they still cannot dilly-dally around and drop a game they shouldn’t.

On Sunday, the team will once again be playing without Edwards. It’ll be his 21st missed game of the season. 

Minnesota Star Continues Battling Injury-Bothered Season As Off-Court Dispute Emerges 

Not only has Edwards struggled to stay healthy late in the season, all the missed games have prevented him from obtaining eligibility for postseason awards. 

Before this season, the NBA instituted a new rule that requires players to play in at least 65 regular season games to be considered for major awards and honors. Had Edward satisfied the games played threshold, he would have almost certainly nabbed a spot on the All-NBA team. 

As Edwards tries to get healthy ahead of the playoffs, he has some off-court matters to take care of. It was reported today that Edwards allegedly hid his personal assets and several businesses tied to his name in California to sidestep the state’s child support obligations. Edwards is facing new allegations in his ongoing battle with Ayesha Howard, the mother of his 18-month-old daughter for child support. 

The Minnesota star is facing tough news at an even tougher time. Playoff basketball is right around the corner, and Edwards has yet to get fully healthy. Now he has some legal drama to sort out.
