Detroit Tigers outfielder Parker Meadows was carted off the field and taken to a hospital after a frightening full-speed collision with teammate Riley Greene on Thursday night in Minnesota, immediately sparking concern across the MLB world.
The severity of the collision — and how Meadows looked immediately afterward — left teammates, coaches and fans fearing the worst.
The 26-year-old Meadows was diagnosed with a concussion, according to Detroit News sportswriter Chris McCosky, who also described the 2018 second-round draft pick as “bleeding a lot.”
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch later explained the bleeding, and expressed serious concern for Meadows, in his postgame remarks. According to MLB.com Tigers correspondent Jason Beck, Hinch said that Meadows “bit his lip or inside of his mouth in the collision, and was pretty out of it.”
“Obviously we’re going to get him checked out for everything, but this one worries me,” Hinch said, as quoted by Beck.
“It’s a terrible feeling. I still feel terrible,” Greene told reporters after the game, as quoted by ESPN.com. “He hit my head. I don’t know where I hit him, to be honest, but I just really hope he’s OK.”
The Tigers lost the finale of a four-game series against the Twins in Minnesota, 3-1, their fifth loss in a row dropping their record to 4-9. The Tigers now head home to face the Miami Marlins, but according to Beck’s reporting, Meadows will stay behind in a Minneapolis hospital “for observation.”
The injury is another blow to a Tigers team that after getting to the playoffs in each of the last two seasons now looks to regroup after a disappointing start to the 2026 campaign.

Length of IL Stay Yet to be Determined
Though the Tigers had not yet placed Meadows on the injured list as of Thursday evening, a stint on MLB’s seven-day concussion injured list “should be a foregone conclusion,” according to a CBS Sports report. “The Tigers could recall Wenceel Perez from Triple-A Toledo to take Meadows’ roster spot, and Perez and Matt Vierling are likely to handle center-field duties.”
Meanwhile, reactions to the frightening Meadows injury came in from around the MLB world.
“Thoughts are with Parker Meadows right now. You could sense the concern from his teammates postgame. Hoping for a quick recovery,” wrote Detroit sports reporter Daniella Bruce on her X (formerly Twitter) account.
“A concussion at the minimum, hopefully not much more for Parker Meadows,” wrote sports medicine physician Dr. Jesse Morse. “He has blood on his face, so possible broken nose. Wouldn’t be surprised if they scanned his neck.”
“Big prayers for Parker Meadows,” wrote one fan, Kate Alyssa.
“Meadows was eventually helped to his feet by the Tigers’ training staff and Target Field’s medical personnel, and was able to gingerly walk a few steps before getting onto a cart and being driven off the field,” wrote Athletic reporter Aaron Gleeman. “After the game, a fully conscious Meadows was seen being taken on a stretcher to a Minneapolis hospital, with his left arm in a sling.”
Long Injury History for Meadows
In spring training of 2025, Meadows suffered a musculocutaneous nerve injury in his right arm that kept him out of action until June 2. He then missed the entire month of August with a quad injury.
Those injuries followed a hamstring strain that cost him a full month of his rookie season in 2024. Now, Meadows will miss at least some of his 2026 season as well, though how much will not become clear until Friday at the earliest.
