The Oklahoma City Thunder dropped an announcement regarding Jalen Williams‘ injury status ahead of their game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday.
The defending champions are set to visit the Lakers at Crypto.com Arena for their fourth and final meeting of the regular season. They will try to sweep the season series for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
It has been an easy matchup for the Thunder, with an average winning margin of 27.0 points per game.
Williams’ Status for Lakers Game
GettyJalen Williams #8 of the Oklahoma City Thunder reacts after a play during the second half against the New York Knicks at Paycom Center on March 29, 2026 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
It has been a tough season for Williams in terms of injuries and staying healthy. He missed the first 19 games of the campaign after undergoing offseason surgery on his right wrist. He even underwent a second procedure before the season started, which pushed back his recovery timeline.
In addition to his wrist injury, Williams also strained his right hamstring twice this season. He missed a total of 26 games in between those two muscle-related injuries.
According to the Thunder’s official injury report, Williams has been ruled out against the Lakers. They are playing the first game of a back-to-back, so the defending champs preferred to give him a rest. They listed his injury as right hamstring injury management.
Williams is joined on the injury report by rookie Thomas Sorber, who was already ruled out for the season after tearing the ACL of his right knee.
Silver Lining on Williams’ Injury
After the Thunder’s win over the New York Knicks in late March, Williams opened up about the impact of his injuries. He looked at the silver lining of his hamstring issues, which was that they helped improve his shooting following wrist surgery.
“My hand feels fine, to be honest,” Williams said. “I said before, like low-key having the hamstring injury helped me work through it, and it just gave me more time to actually like shoot. That was the hardest part, like going through the whole summer not being able to shoot and then coming in with a week of practice and then playing.”
With the playoffs set to start in less than two weeks, the Thunder will need Williams to be at his best. They are the favorites to win the NBA championship, but teams like the San Antonio Spurs, Denver Nuggets, Boston Celtics and Detroit Pistons stand in their way.
Lakers Missing Two Key Players, Possibly LeBron James Too
The last time the Thunder and Lakers played was on April 2 in Oklahoma City. The defending champions gave the purple and gold franchise a reality check by beating them mercilessly to earn a 139-96 win.
To make matters worse, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves suffered injuries during the game. Doncic was diagnosed with a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, while Reaves had a Grade 2 left oblique strain.
Both injuries have a four-to-six-week recovery timeline, though Doncic recently flew to Europe to seek better treatment.
As for LeBron James, he is listed as questionable due to left foot injury management. He’ll be updated to available or downgraded to out before tip-off.
