The New York Yankees are currently taking on the Texas Rangers in a series finale. New York is going for the sweep.
Before the series finale with the Rangers, the Yankees announced that top prospect Elmer Rodriguez would make his MLB debut on Wednesday. Well, his first MLB start is officially in the books for the Yankees, and it was a pretty good one.
Against the Rangers on Wednesday, Elmer Rodriguez pitched four innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits, four walks, and three strikeouts.
Given that Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon are set to return to the Yankees rotation, plus New York’s already dominant rotation, Rodriguez may not see that many starts this season, but that’s okay because at 22-years-old, he has a lot of time to develop.

Any MLB debut for any player is always a special moment. To do it with the Yankees as a 22 y/o is very impressive and a moment that Elmer Rodriguez will always remember.
Here are some reactions across social media regarding Rodriguez’s first MLB start:

Unless the New York Yankees want to use Elmer Rodriguez in a bullpen role, it’s hard to tell how many starts he will make with the Yankees before returning to Triple-A.
It’s a tough situation right now for Rodriguez, given the Yankees’ rotation dominance, but there’s no doubt he’ll get another shot to start a MLB game.
He pitched one game for Puerto Rico in the WBC this March, and it was three scoreless innings.
In AAA this season, Elmer Rodriguez has a 1.27 ERA over 21+ innings and 20 strikeouts.
In other Yankees news down on the farm, Gerrit Cole completed his rehab start today with Double-A Somerset, and Anthony Volpe was playing behind Cole in the Wednesday matinee outing.
