Steph Curry Gives Eerie Statement On Warriors Coach Steve Kerr’s Future

Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors’ 2025-2026 NBA season ended on Friday after losing to the Phoenix Suns in the final play-in game.

Towards the end of the game, Curry, along with Draymond Green and head coach Steve Kerr, shared a moment on the sidelines, embracing each other as the longtime coach’s future in doubt in Golden State.

After the game, Curry gave his thoughts about Kerr’s future with the Warriors, explaining that he only wants his longtime head coach to be happy and wanted on the team he mentored to four NBA championships.

“I want coach to be happy. I want him to be excited about the job,” Curry said after their loss to the Suns. “I want him to believe he’s the right guy for the job.

“However it goes, you’re thankful for what we’ve been able to accomplish over this run…I just want coach to be able to look at the situation as a whole,” he added.

Curry also indicated that he wants Kerr to be back with the team.

“He knows how I feel about him. That shouldn’t even need to be said,” he stated.

Kerr is still under contract until the 206-2027 season, but a Warriors’ pivot from their old dynastic era would put his job in a precarious position.

If it were the end for Kerr’s time in Golden State, he would certainly be remembered fondly. Kerr was the architect of six NBA Finals runs, resulting in four NBA titles.

Kerr first coached the squad in 2015, bringing the team led by Curry, Klay Thompson, Green, and other veterans to the championship in just his first season.

When they added Durant in 2016, the Warriors went on to win two more titles in 2017 and 2018, before zooming to the 2022, where the squad turned back the clock alongside the likes of Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole.

Steve Kerr was the first to acknowledge that his job as a head coach could be nearing its end.

After the play-in game, Kerr expressed uncertainty about his role with the Warriors, as he thinks his job would require new ideas from a fresh perspective soon.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen,” he said. “I still love coaching, but I get it. These jobs all have an expiration date. There is a run that happens, and when the run ends, sometimes it’s time for new blood and new ideas.”

Now, all eyes are on Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy as the team enters a crossroads in the offseason.

The Warriors had a promising start this season, but injuries, including a season-ending one with Jimmy Butler, derailed their run. The team finished with a 37-45 record, good for the 10th seed, before outlasting the No. 9 LA Clippers in the play-in tournament.

Steve Kerr and Steph Curry have been synonymous over the past decade. Kerr said he does not want to leave his prized star.

“I don’t want to walk away from Steph,” Kerr said. “I’m definitely not going and coaching somewhere else next year in the NBA. I would never walk away from Steph. But all this stuff has to be aligned and right. Those are all discussions that will be had.”

Before Kerr became a multi-titled head coach, he was an analyst for TNT’s broadcast of the NBA.

Kerr’s offensive system, which is predicated on off-ball movement and outside shooting, has allowed the three-point revolution to flourish in the NBA.
