Senior meal grant
The Live Oak Senior Nutrition Center was awarded a $35,000 grant to support the center’s efforts to provide hot meals for local seniors.
The grant will help cover the shortfall between the 53 meals per day currently funded by Santa Clara County and the roughly 80 meals a day that the center serves, according to a press release from the Los Gatos Foundation for Older Adults to Thrive. The funding comes from Successful Aging Solutions and Community Consulting, previously the Saratoga Area Senior Coordinating Council.
The two organizations will work together with the foundation to develop additional funding so the meal program can be sustainable.
“Several [seniors] say that this program has, quite literally, saved their lives,” Live Oak executive director Kathy Mlinarich said in the release. “For too many, this is the only substantial meal they receive all day.”
Watershed Collaborative
Representatives from the Santa Clara County FireSafe Council, Santa Clara County Parks, Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District and other local environmental leaders will share insights about the Los Gatos Creek Watershed Collaborative in a webinar on March 14, 9 a.m.-noon.
The collaborative is an effort to reduce the risk and severity of wildfires in the watershed. First started in 2020, the collaborative received a second round of funding last May to support the protection of native species and habitats and protect the drinking water from the Lexington and Elsman reservoirs.
