Seahawks’ Super Bowl Coach Gets ‘Kimmel’ Spot Tonight as Staff Questions Loom

Fresh off the Seattle Seahawks’ 29-13 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, head coach Mike Macdonald is expected to make a quick, headline-grabbing pivot: a late-night TV appearance in Los Angeles.

Multiple Seahawks reporters signaled Monday that Macdonald is going from the Super Bowl scene in Northern California to tape an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” that will air tonight.

“A look at the last few and next few hours for Mike Macdonald … He became the third-youngest head coach to win a Super Bowl. He’ll now head to Los Angeles to tape an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel,” ESPN’s Brady Henderson posted.

The News Tribune’s Gregg Bell echoed the same itinerary, adding one personal detail from Macdonald: “Macdonald says his mom is particularly stoked about that.”

What happened in Super Bowl LX: Seahawks’ defense set the tone

Seattle’s win wasn’t a last-second thriller. It was the type of defensive statement that has followed Macdonald for most of his rise.

Reuters noted the Seahawks’ defense “dominated,” with six sacks and three takeaways in the victory.

The championship also stamped a major milestone on Macdonald’s résumé. At 38, he became the third-youngest head coach to win a Super Bowl, a list that includes Sean McVay and Mike Tomlin.

Reuters added another standout number: Macdonald became the first head coach under 40 to win 17 games in a season including the playoffs.

Why is Mike Macdonald trending with “Jimmy Kimmel” and what’s next after the show?

The short answer: it’s the rare “morning-after-the-Super-Bowl” travel schedule.

Per Henderson’s post, the Kimmel taping is a quick stop before Macdonald flips back into roster-building mode. Henderson wrote Macdonald will then begin interviewing offensive coordinator candidates to find a replacement for Klint Kubiak. (That part is reported as Macdonald’s next step and is not an official team announcement yet.)

For Seahawks fans, that coaching search angle matters almost as much as the TV cameo. The days right after a Super Bowl win can be when staff movement accelerates, and Seattle’s next offensive plan will define how sustainable this run is.

No, Maria Taylor isn’t his wife, but the connection is why “high school” is trending

One of the more viral Super Bowl moments around Macdonald involved NBC Sports host Maria Taylor, who was part of the Lombardi Trophy presentation. At least one local outlet reported Taylor shared the stage with Macdonald as a former classmate.

The reason “high school” started popping up in trending searches: both Taylor and Macdonald are tied to Centennial High School in Roswell, Georgia. Macdonald’s bio lists Centennial (Roswell, GA) as his high school, and Taylor attended Centennial High School as well.

Taylor is 38 years old (born May 12, 1987).

Macdonald was born June 26, 1987 (also 38).

Macdonald’s actual wife is Stephanie Macdonald. They married in 2021 and have a son.

Mike Macdonald’s NFL coaching history: the fast climb that led to a ring

Macdonald’s rise has been rapid, and defense-driven.

He worked in college football at Georgia, then climbed the NFL ladder with the Baltimore Ravens, including a stint as defensive coordinator (2022-2023), before Seattle hired him as head coach in January 2024.

He also spent 2021 as Michigan’s defensive coordinator, a season that boosted his profile even more before returning to the Ravens and eventually landing the Seahawks job.

Now, after delivering a title in his second season in Seattle, Macdonald’s post-Super Bowl itinerary is basically a snapshot of modern NFL fame: Lombardi Trophy celebration, late-night TV, and then straight into the next big hire that could determine whether this championship run becomes a repeat threat.
