The Boston Red Sox beat the Chicago White Sox 12-11 on Thursday night at Fenway Park. The game stretched to 13 innings and took well over four hours to complete. Every available reliever threw. The bench was empty by the 10th inning.
Caleb Durbin ended it with a single through the middle that brought home the winning run. The sellout crowd erupted. The Red Sox had their eighth straight win.
The final score does not come close to capturing what actually happened.
A Team That Refused to Lose
The Red Sox fell behind five separate times on Thursday night. They answered every single time.
They trailed by four in the third. By two in the seventh. They trailed heading into the bottom of the ninth, the 10th, and the 11th. Five deficits across 13 innings. Five responses. Not one moment where this team stopped competing.
Anthony Seigler brought the Red Sox back with a two-run double in the fourth. Wilyer Abreu kept the game alive with a clutch ninth-inning hit. Andruw Monasterio and Abreu each came through again in extra innings. Jake Rogers tied it with a sacrifice fly in the 12th.
Then Durbin won it in the 13th, playing through a jammed pinkie that had required taping back in the sixth inning. He had been dealing with the injury for more than half the game by the time he delivered the final swing.
“This team is a pain in the ass,” Rogers said after his Red Sox debut. “They’re relentless, and they just don’t give in. This is a very dangerous team.”

The Bullpen Was Running on Fumes
The game pushed Boston’s pitching staff to the absolute limit. Ranger Suarez could not find the zone early, surrendering four runs across three innings and forcing the relievers into action well ahead of schedule.
By the final innings, the Red Sox had cycled through their entire bullpen. Brayan Bello was the last arm available. He covered the 12th and 13th, delivering a scoreless final frame that gave the offense one more chance to win it.
Had Durbin not come through, the Red Sox would have had no pitchers left. The only unused arms in the building belonged to starters who were not scheduled to throw.
“Thank God the game’s over,” Tracy said. “I’m drenched in sweat. I wasn’t even playing.”

Final Word for the Red Sox
The Red Sox are 63-51. They have won 31 of their last 36 games.
Thursday night was the most extreme version of what this team has been all summer. Trailing, clawing back, refusing to go quietly, finding a way.
Durbin put it simply after the game.
“That’s kind of who we are right now.”
